摘要 <p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simply generate a prediction image of a space area at high speed with high accuracy by decoding a DCT coefficient subjected to variable length coding into a linear stream, predicting the DC coefficient of a current block from the DC coefficients of adjacent blocks selected from an upper or left block and also predicting the AC coefficient of the current block from the selected blocks. SOLUTION: Image data received by an input terminal 101 of an image prediction coder and divided into a plurality of smaller adjacent areas are given to an adder 102. On the other hand, a prediction signal generator 112 generates image data in a predicted small area in an image screen and outputs the data as image data of an optimally predicted small area. A DCT converter 104 of the coder 103 coverts the image data in the difference small area generated as a result of subtraction in the adder 102 into an image signal in a frequency region to obtain a DCT transform coefficient and a quantizer 105 quantizes the DCT transform coefficient and the quantized small area image data are outputted to an output terminal 106.</p>
