PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily retrieve a desired scene by a user by reading recorded position information from a header, extracting video information at an optional recording position as a still picture, reducing the still picture, compositing the video information, displaying the composited video information, reading, reducing, combining and displaying a plurality of video image with respect to a prescribed time interval according to the recorded position information. SOLUTION: The reproduction device receives a scene retrieval menu display instruction via a user interface section 12 and reads recorded position information by an AV decoder 5. Position information in response to a time resulting from adding a current reproduction time to a prescribed time interval value set in advance by a user is retrieved among position information sets (1)-(m). A CPU 7 gives an instruction to a drive section 4 to a transfer AV data by one screen image from the retrieved information and also gives an instruction to the AV decoder 5 to decode received data and to output video/audio data. Furthermore, the CPU 7 turns off an audio changeover switch 6 and throws a video changeover switch 8 to a position of a video mixer side.
