PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface acoustic wave device that is made small and has an excellent characteristic. SOLUTION: The surface acoustic wave device adopts an electrode structure where a transmission electrode 21a and a reception electrode 21b are closely placed on a substrate of an La3Ga5.5Nb0.5O14(LGN) single crystal that provides an operation of a natural single-phase unidirectional transducer (hereinafter also called an NSPUDT) so that a propagation direction of a surface acoustic wave between the transmission electrode 21a and the reception electrode 21b is in parallel and not overlapped, a transmission signal from the transmission electrode 21a is reflected in reflectors 3a, 3b via a directional coupler 6 and made incident onto the reception electrode 21b.
