PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrict a defect caused by fixing and to obtain improved printing quality for different kinds of media by providing a sensor constituted to generate a signal expressing the qualitative characteristic of the medium and adjusting a fixing parameter in response to the signal. SOLUTION: The sensor monitors the medium in order to control a fixing mechanism. Namely, the sensor decides or monitors the qualitative characteristic of the medium and outputs a characteristic signal expressing the qualitative characteristic thereof to an adjusting circuit 70. A control circuit 30 receives the characteristic signal generated from the sensor and controls the adjustment of the fixing parameter of the fixing mechanism in response to the signal. Then, the sensor monitors ambient conditions such as temperature and humidity and the circuit 30 monitors the medium and controls the adjustment of the fixing parameter in response to the monitoring of the ambient conditions. Furthermore, the circuit 30 monitors the fixing parameter such as fixing temperature and controls a fixing roller in response to the monitoring by using a fixing mechanism controller 74. |
