PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a current constricted type surface light emitting diode which has higher extraction efficiency. SOLUTION: A 1st impurity doping region 42 is formed without overlapping with an upper electrode 18 along the thickness of an LED chip 10 and, and the 1st impurity doping region 42 is electrically connected to the upper electrode 18 via a 2nd impurity doping area 44, so that a current flows locally to the part (dotted-line hatched part) of an active layer 30 which corresponds to an outside diameter d2 of the 1st impurity doping region 42 to emit light therefrom and the light is not cut off by the upper electrode 18. This LED chip 10, therefore, efficiently outputs the light emitted by the active layer 30 to the outside, so that higher extraction efficiency is obtained as compared with a conventional value shown by the data point of a black solid circle. |
