The system has controller with a CPU, a control panel and an associated memory which contains a public data area for storing, temporarily, data input from the control panel and a program data area which stores finishing programs. A profile path editor is located in the CPU and converts workpiece coordinates into an actual workpiece profile path and a path program. A pattern interface unit is connected to the CPU and transmits pattern signals generated by the CPU to the operator at the control panel so as to guide the operator to enter required data about product finishes and workpiece profile coordinates. The entered data actuates the controller to actuate one of the finishing programs to regulate the finishing operation by the machine tool.
