PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the occurrence of an image defect or the formation of a ghost owing to lowering of the charge ability caused by the persistent dirt on a charging device 2, over a long period. SOLUTION: Relating to this image forming device, a cleaning member 82 being held in contact with the image carrier is separated from the image carrier surface in the non-image area on the image carrier surface. A charging member of the charging device 2 functions as the toner dispersing member by stopping a drive in the non-image area on the image carrier surface. In the developing device 4, the toner on the image carrier surface is recovered in the non-image area of the image carrier. In the charging device 2 and the developing device 4, the bias being different from the image forming time is applied in the non- image area on the image carrier surface. |
