摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make films hardly peelable at the time of joining to a package, etc., and to obtain excellent airtightness by forming the thin films in order of chromium, chromium-gold alloy and gold on the flank near the front end of an optical fiber and forming thick films in order of nickel and gold thereon. SOLUTION: The optical fiber pigtail is formed by removing part of a coating, forming the shape at its front end to a tapered spherical shape and forming the metallic films on the flank near the front end. The metallic films are obtained by forming the thin films of the chromium 22, the chromium-gold alloy 23 and the gold 24 successively from the optical fiber 21 side, then forming the thick films in order of the nickel 25 and the gold 26 thereon. The reason why the thick films are formed on the thin films lies in that, if only the thin films exist at the time of solder fixing of the optical fiber pigtail to the optical package, the 'solder absorping phenomena' by which the thin films formed on the quartz glass of the optical fiber pigtail are absorbed away by the solder occurs and that the tight adhesion between the quartz glass and the thin films do not exist any more and the airtightness can no longer be obtained. The need for forming the thick films on the thin films, therefore, occurs.
