The alternator has one part (16) of the rectifier attached to a plate with no cooling fins that is in contact with most of the surface of the alternator end cap (10), so it is cooled mainly by conduction to the alternator body. The other part (18) of the rectifier is offset in a direction perpendicular to the alternator shaft axis, and is cooled primarily by convection through cooling fins.
