PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inspect uneveness in a gap between glass substrates by taking images of uneveness in color (RGB) formed on the plane of a liquid crystal pannel by a CCD camera, and analyzing the uneveness in color. SOLUTION: A first light deflection board 14 is placed on a light diffusion board 13 of a lighting device 13, and thereon an LCD pannel 15 to be inspected, and furthere thereon a second light deflection board 14 is placed. Then, the pannel 15 is image taken by a CCD camera 17 set on an axis vertical to a surface of the pannel 15, and the signal of the RGB image thereof is taken in an image processor 18. Thereafter, with the gap (cell gap) between a Newtons' ring on the surface of the pannel 15 and two glass substrates holding liquid crystal material of the pannel 15 and the corelation between the RGB images, the uneveness in the cell gap is inspected and the result si displayed on monitors 19a, 19b.
