<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain a required maximum measuring distance performance while sustaining distance resolution by multiplying a reflected wave from an object to be measured by a signal corresponding to a wave transmitted from a transmitting means and then measuring the distance to the object based on the multiplication results. SOLUTION: An oscillating section 1 delivers a signal corresponding to an electromagnetic wave to a circulator 3. A pulse generating section 2 delivers a pulse signal corresponding to a predetermined transmission pulse width to a switching section 4 and a phase comparing section 12. The circulator 3 generates a transmission pulse for irradiating an object to be inspected and a coupler 6 delivers a received transmission pulse to a circulator 7 and a shaping section 9. An antenna 8 delivers a reflected wave from the object to a shaping section 10 through a circulator 7. The shaping section 9, 10 delivers a shaped DC signal to a multiplying section 11. A phase comparing section 12 compares signals received from the pulse generating section 2 and the multiplying section 11 to determine a delay time which is then substituted into a specified expression for calculating the distance to the object.</p> |
