PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate a precise measurement of optimum operation distance when a desired lens is actually used. SOLUTION: There are provided the process of arranging a light transmissive substrate 7 so as to face an objective lens 5 capable of converging light and focus a focal point F1 of the objective lens 5 onto a surface of the substrate 7, and the process of bringing a lens surface of a measurement target lens 1 into contact with or close to the reverse surface of the substrate 7, moving at least one of the measurement target lens 1 and the objective lens 5 so that a focal point toward the objective lens 5 provided through the substrate 7 by the measurement target lens 1 is focused to the focal point F1 of the objective lens 5, and determining its moved distance.
