PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin light emitting diode capable of relatively easily constituting a large-area display device, having a long service life and adaptable to a full-color display at a low cost. SOLUTION: This light emitting diode has a positive electrode 2, a negative electrode 6 and an inorganic luminescent layer 4 generating at least electroluminescence between the electrodes. The light emitting diode has a high-resistance inorganic electron transporting layer 5 having a conductive bus for blocking positive holes and for transporting electrons between the inorganic luminescent layer 4 and the negative electrode 6 and has an inorganic positive hole transporting layer 3 between the inorganic luminescent layer 4 and the positive electrode 2. The inorganic positive hole transporting layer 3 is a high-resistance inorganic positive hole transporting layer having a conductive bus for blocking electrons and for transporting the positive holes.
