PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce cost by shortening a distance between carriage arms sandwiching a recording medium thereby simplifying wiring in a head actuator provided with a minute movement mechanism for a head. SOLUTION: This minute movement mechanism 10 for head positioned between the base part of the head suspension 74 of a swing type head actuator and the tip part of a carriage arm 72 is provided with an actuator base 30 fixed to the tip part of the carriage arm 72, a hinge plate 40 attached to the base part of the head suspension 74, and a shearing type piezoelectric element 31 provided between the opposing surfaces of the actuator base 30 and the hinge plate 40. By providing a step part 34 in the tip part 35 of the actuator base 30, the piezoelectric element 31 is positioned in the thick part of the carriage arm 72. Thus, the actuator base 30 and the thick part of the piezoelectric element 31 are prevented from being protruded in the upper surface side of the carriage arm 72, and the height of the head actuator is reduced.
