PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform recording or reproducing of a packet of another program area even during the recording of the read-in area and read-out area by enabling the recording, interrupting of the recording and resuming of the recording of the read-in area and the read-out area of an optical disk capable of overwritingly recording data to be performed in a small unit. SOLUTION: A controller 8 performs recording processing of a read-in area and the read-out area of an optical disk 10 in background and when a request for the recording or the producing of user data in the program area is transmitted from a host computer during the recording processing, the controller 8 interrupts the recording processing of the read-in area and the read-out area temporarily to execute the recording or the reproducing of the use data and after execution is completed, it resumes the recording processing of the read-in area and the read-out area and continues this processing.
