PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable anybody to easily execute the optical axis control of an optical emboss reader in a short time by locating a lens and an image sensor so that an image sensor read pixel line watched from a lens direction can be the center of the lens. SOLUTION: Concerning the control of an image sensor position with respect to a lens 4, a read pixel line 13 as the real reading part of an image sensor 2 is visually confirmed from the direction of an arrow A through the lens 4. Then, the control can be executed by positioning the image sensor read pixel line 13 in the center of X1 and Y1 directions of the lens 4. In order to determine the location position relation of a light source 3 and the image sensor 2, positioning of a base 1 can be executed by using an optical axis control mechanism capable of controlling only the Y direction while positioning X andθdirections with mechanical accuracy.
