<p>The present invention is directed to a system (40) and method for laying masonry blocks (41) in multiple block units (43). The system (40) comprises a mortar injection device (44), a block hoist apparatus (46) and a mortar applying apparatus (48). Chutes (80) inject mortar into gaps (73) to create a mortar joint between each block (41). The tamper (82) comprises a vibratory roller (88) and/or a series of vibrating pistons (89) and settles the mortar in the gaps (73). The hoist apparatus (46) includes a mechanical hoist (100), a transmission member (102). At least a portion of each of major and minor gripping members (124, 125, 112, 113) are insertable into different blocks (41) to retain the blocks (41) in alignment for raising and lowering of the multiple block unit (43). The mortar applying device (48) includes an applicator (300), a housing, a housing guide (312) and means for controlling the dispensing of mortar onto the top surface of a row of blocks (41), while substantially limiting application of mortar into the inner cavities of the blocks.</p> |
