PURPOSE: A device and a method are provided to improve the reliability of a gear shift by always maintaining an operating pneumatic pressure inside a pneumatic gear shift system over a regular pressure according to an operation of a clutch pedal. CONSTITUTION: A pneumatic sensor(14) detects an operating pneumatic pressure from an air tank(6) to a magnetic valve(12). An indicator light(16) is lighted to indicate to a driver when the operating pneumatic pressure is under a predetermined pressure. In operating a clutch pedal(18) by the indicator light, an operating signal of clutch pedal is received. The pneumatic pressure is generated from a compressor by opening a throttle valve(24) and increasing an RPM of idle rotation. Each step is finished when the operating pneumatic pressure is over the predetermined value.
