PURPOSE: Provided are 2,2-dialkyl-4,5-diaryl-3(2H)-furanone derivatives represented by formula (I), a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitor composition comprising an effective amount of the derivatives. The compounds of formula (I) is useful in treating COX-2 mediated disease by effectively inhibiting biosynthesis of a prostaglandin and by improving the selectivity to COX-2. CONSTITUTION: 2,2-dialkyl-4,5-diaryl-3(2H)-furanone derivatives as COX-2 are represented by formula (I), wherein A is CH3S, CH3SO or CH3SO2; B and C, which may be the same or different, is methyl or ethyl (in case of B is methyl, then C is not methyl group), or cyclohexylidene or cyclopentylidene group formed together with each other; D is benzo£b|thienyl, 1-naphtyl, 2-naphtyl, benzofuranyl, furanyl or a substituent having following structural formula, wherein R1-5, which may be the same or different, are hydrogen, halogen, C1-C5 lower alkyl, haloalkyl, alkoxy, haloalkoxy, hydroxy, hydroxyalkyl, nitro, nitrile, azido, methylenedioxy, phenyl, C1-C5 lower alkylthio, C1-C5 lower alkyl sulfonyl, COR6 or NR7R8, wherein R6 is hydrogen or C1-C5 lower alkyl and R7-8, which may be the same or different, are hydrogen, methyl, ethyl or acetyl group.
