A method of selectively transferring a digital data file onto a medium for enabling mass reproduction of the digital data file, comprising: obtaining said data file; receiving authorisation data including encrypted data derived from a file identity code substantially uniquely identifying said data file; deriving said file identity code from said data file; comparing said file identity code with said encrypted data and inhibiting transferral of the data file onto the medium if the encrypted data does not correspond to said file identity code.
