PURPOSE: A method for setting up fundamental configuration information of a network equipment is provided to use a keypad and a vacuum fluorescent display(VFD) mounted on an outer part of the network equipment, to set up the fundamental configuration information, so as to easily install/manage the network equipment even when a user is not a network managing expert. CONSTITUTION: If a network equipment is driven, a non volatile RAM(NVRAM) storing configuration information of the network equipment reads an IP(Internet Protocol) address and a net mask to display the IP address and the net mask in a vacuum fluorescent display(VFD)(S10). The NVRAM decides whether a key is inputted for changing the fundamental configuration information(S12). If so, the NVRAM inputs changing information from a user through a keypad of the network equipment(S14), and decides whether the changing information is a right type(S16). If the changing information is not the right type, the NVRAM reinputs changing information of the network equipment(S14). If the reinputted changing information is right, the NVRAM stores the changing information, and redrives the network equipment by using the changing information(S18).
