PURPOSE: An MPEG video sequence database construction and retrieval method is provided to effectively index objects motion with various sizes and directions, construct the MPEG video sequence database based on the indexing vectors, and enable an end user to retrieve video sequence spots from the database by using a query indexing vector extracted from a query video sequence or a query moving trajectory. CONSTITUTION: An MPEG video sequence database construction method comprises steps of allowing MPEG video sequence data to be input(502), extracting macro blocks of moving vectors from the input MPEG video sequence data in a moving vector extraction block(504), erasing surrounding moving vector data, detecting moving objects and clustering them(506), detecting moving object spots by using the number of the clustered moving objects(508), indexing histogram of the moving objects by OMHS(Object Motion Histogram in a Shot) and average moving values by analyzing the object moving labeled by the frame(510), and storing the indexing vectors and the corresponding MPEG video sequence data(512).
