<p>A method (10) and circuit (40) for transition control between step-up (18, 26) and step-down (22, 24) modes in a charge pump (12). The charge pump (12) starts in an off state (14) and a determination (16) is made if an input voltage (VIN) is less than or equal to the output voltage (VOUT). If so, the charge pump (12) is operated in the step-up mode (18) until the output voltage (VOUT) is within regulation. Otherwise, the charge pump (12) is operated in the step-down mode (24) for at least one cycle. If this brings the output voltage (VOUT) within regulation, the charge pump (12) is shut down. Otherwise, the charge pump (12) is operated in the step-up mode (26) until the output voltage (VOUT) is within regulation.</p> |
