The invention concerns a device for programming and erasing data of a wireless controlled decoder, in particular of a control device for the device controlling a garage door. In programming mode (27) of the decoder, at least a coding signal is transmitted by a transmitter, by wireless transmission, to the decoder and, in control mode (33) control data provided with a control signal are transmitted by the transmitter, by wireless transmission, to the decoder. The decoder comprises a decoding device for comparing at least a coding signal stored in a non volatile memory with a transmitted coding signal, and a releasing device for releasing the control data when the coding signals correspond. The decoder comprises switching means for automatically switching (27) to the programming mode when the supply voltage is switched on and for switching back to control mode (33) after a predetermined time interval or after a predetermined time interval following a programming process. Such a system does not require a programming switch, hence more economical, and enabling a simpler installation with low probability of breakdown.
