A method and system for sensing the temperature of an environment. An image sensor (20), having an image sensing module (42), is introduced into an environment. The temperature of the image sensor is calculated from the sensed dark current noise of the image sensor. The temperature of the environment is calculated and optionally displayed. The system and method are also implemented in a medical device (30).
