METHOD AND DEVICE FOR SEPARATING MAGNETIC PARTICLES

The invention relates to a method and device for separating magnetic particles in the nanometer and micrometer scale which are dispersed in flowable media and which are preferably used in the areas of analysis, diagnosis and for absorbing energy. Many applications of magnetic particles exploit their interaction with magnetic alternating fields. Prior art methods and devices do not enable the separation of magnetic particles using magnetic alternating fields. For this reason, the invention provides a solution that enables a simultaneous reduction of the remanence of the separating device and a reduction of the formation of aggregates of the separated particles. According to the invention, the magnetic particles are subjected to an inhomogeneous magnetic alternating field inside a separating device in such a way that at least a portion of the particles can follow the magnetic alternating field to a location where the field intensity is higher and thus be separated.
