The tire inflation system has a fixed first annular component(34) with a first air opening(90) and a sealing chamber(36) in communication with it. The sealing chamber defines a radially extending opening, and the stationary component is created and designed so that it can be fitted on an axle tube(12). At least one radially extending sealing component(37,38) is located in the sealing chamber. An annular rotatable second component(33) has a radially extending face which is in contact with the sealing component of the sealing chamber, and may be hub-mounted.
