The guide roller, to spread out a web, has at least one section on each side of the center plane (M) which drops away to each end of the roller cladding (14). The cross section of the roller cladding (14) sections flanking the center plane (M) have a rounded and tapering shape towards the roller ends. The cut (16) into the roller cladding (14) has a closed end on a theoretical cylinder surface concentric to the roller carrier shaft (12), with at least two cuts (16) into the cladding (14) on each side of the roller center plane (M), parallel to each other. The closed base of each cut (16) has a trapezoid shape in cross-section. The outer diameter of the roller cladding (14) at the center plane (M) is 1-30% larger than the diameter of the cladding (14) at the ends of the roller. The roller cladding (14) is of rubber or a suitable elastomer. |
