A laser module having a semiconductor laser chip and a reflecting surface. The semiconductor chip is positioned highly precisely. The production time is short. The size of the laser module is small and the production cost is low. A reflecting surface provided on a silicon surface has a step, and the reflecting surfaces serve as a reflecting surface for the laser output beam and a positioning surface for positioning a laser chip. Therefore the semiconductor laser chip is positioned with high precision. A laser module for high-power recording is so contrived that a slant face opposed to a side face in the longitudinal direction of the semiconductor laser chip has a step, a gently slant face slanting at an angle to the longitudinal direction of the laser chip is provided in the wiring extending from the bottom of the sink of the lower electrode of the laser chip to the upper part of the silicon base, and the wiring is laid via the gently slant face, thereby suppressing the occurrence of migration.
