System for wireless communications between computers

In a system for communicating information content by wireless between a host computer 102 and a client computer 104, the client is adapted to transmit pointer movement signals and selection signals to a host. The host is adapted to receive the pointer movement signals and selection signals and to display a pointer 128 and a selection boundary 124, and is further adapted to transmit data to the client. The client is adapted to receive and store the data thus acquired. Preferably the client computer is further adapted to transmit pointer movement and insertion point selection signals to the host computer and to transmit selected data from its storage to the host. The host is adapted to receive these signals and data, and to respond by displaying the data according to the insertion point selection signal. Thus the host is caused to act as if the client's pointer signals were local signals from a mouse attached to the host. The user's actions are familiar to users who have done conventional copy-and-paste operations with a graphical user interface and a mouse pointer.
