PURPOSE: A therapeutic and preventing agent for mastitis in dairy cows comprising chitosan, sodium benzoate, allantoin, sodium propionate or the like is provided which is safe to a human body or an animal as well as having excellent therapeutic effects and can be used without distinction in the lactation period or dry period. CONSTITUTION: The composition for mastitis in dairy cows comprises 1 to 5% by weight of chitosan, 0.01 to 0.1% by weight of sodium benzoate, 0.1 to 1% by weight of allantoin, 0.1 to 0.3% by weight of sodium propionate such as propylene glycol, an aqueous base material and the remainder of distilled water. The composition exhibits an effect on latent mastitis as well as acute, chronic and subclinical mastitis.
