The invented powder dispenser (10) includes a powder housing (20) for holding a supply of powdered material to be dispensed, the powder housing (20) including an inhalation diffuser (64) provided displaced relation to the powdered material supply, a metering plate (180) including a metered dose hole (184) for holding a metered amount of the powdered material, and positioned below the powdered material supply, whereby the metering plate (180) and the powder housing (20) being relatively rotatable with respect to each other about a common central axis. The apparatus further comprises a counter providing a visual count of the number of doses of the powdered material that have been dispensed or remain to be dispensed in response to the relative rotation, the counter including counter rings (590, 620) providing the visual count, the counter rings (590, 620) being rotatable about the common central axis and having on their surface digital scales (600, 628), which display the visual count. The counter further comprises an actuating mechanism rotatable about the central axis for incrementally rotating the counter rings (590, 620) in response to the above-indicated relative rotation of the apparatus components. The powder dispenser (10) further includes a nozzle (380) serving for breaking up agglomerates of powdered material from the inhalation diffuser (64) to form micronized powdered material. The nozzle (380) includes a chamber (412) for changing the direction of flow of the powder from the plane, in which the powder flows through the inhalation diffuser (64) to a second plane being perpendicular to the first plane. The apparatus also comprises a closure cap (520) serving for covering the powder housing (20) and priming the powder dispenser (10) for use automatically upon removal the closure cap (520). |
