PURPOSE: An apparatus and method is provided to achieve an in-advance prevention against deterioration of engine output and atmospheric contamination by allowing a driver to promptly recognize an erroneous operation of purge control solenoid valve(PCSV). CONSTITUTION: An apparatus comprises a hall sensor(100), an engine control unit(200) and a display unit(300). The hall sensor has a permanent magnet and is installed to be adjacent to a plunger(13) mounted within a PCSV(10). The hall sensor senses the state of reciprocal movement of the plunger and outputs a signal corresponding to the reciprocal movement of the plunger. The engine control unit outputs a PCSV driving control signal to two coils mounted within the PCSV when the vehicle starts operation, judges the operation state of the PCSV in accordance with the signal output from the hall sensor, and outputs an erroneous operation display control signal corresponding to the judged operation state of the PCSV. The display unit received the erroneous operation display control signal from the engine control unit and displays the erroneous operation state so as to permit the driver to perceive such an erroneous operation.
