A voice signal is collected by a microphone (103), the output from which is subjected to analog-to-digital conversion by an A/D converter (105). A voice level detector (107) detects the voice level of the signal and, if the detected level exceeds a predetermined value, disables a display power supply (109). As a result, the display operation after the establishment of a call can be minimized to save power.
