PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a model animal for pain accompanying with herpes zoster, capable of judging the analgesic effect of a medicine against herpes zoster, allodynia and postherpetic neuralgia in a good efficiency by infecting an animal with a herpes virus for developing a pain response. SOLUTION: This disease model is provided by infecting a rodent animal such as a mouse e.g. with dripping a herpes virus such as herpes simplex type 1 virus, herpes simplex type 2 virus or herpes zoster virus after anesthetizing, removing hair at right side hind leg and abdominal part by using hair clippers and a hair-removing cream and then chopping the 5×5 mm range at the lower part of the knee joint with a bundled 10 pieces of 27 G intracutaneous needles to develop a pain response. Further, by using the model animal, it is preferable to perform the screening of an effective compound for preventing or treating the pain accompanying by herpes zoster, and the administering amount of the obtained compound is preferably within a range of 0.01 mg to 2 g daily.
