PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To impart sufficient oxidation resistance to a carbon material by coating a polysilazane onto the surface of the carbon material and sintering it for fixing. SOLUTION: A carbon material being processed in the plate-like form and having surface roughness, Ra of about 0.3μm is dipped into an about 10% polysilazane solution diluted with xylene, and then, after rapidly pulling up, the carbon material is sintered at about 500 deg.C under the atmosphere for 1 h. Or, a carbon material being processed in the plate-like form and having surface roughness Ra of about 0.1μm is dipped into an about 5% polysilazane solution diluted with xylene, and then, after pulling up from the solution, the carbon material is sintered at 120 deg.C under the atmosphere for 1 h. Further, the sintered carbon material is again dipped into the same polysilazane solution and, thereafter, the carbon material is sintered at 500 deg.C under the atmosphere for 1 h. At this time, it is possible to coat the surfaces of the carbon material one by one by spin coating. When the coated carbon materials obtained by two coating methods mentioned above as the examples are fired at 700 deg.C under the atmosphere for 1 h, the amount of the weight loss is 0% in either coated carbon material.
