PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tail seal for a shield machine which can make the shield machine length of a rigid part shorter than in shield machines of the prior art. SOLUTION: A ring-shaped groove 11 is provided on the inner peripheral surface of the rear of the skin plate 2 of a shield machine 1 in such a way as to open along the circumferential direction thereof. Ring-shaped tail packing 12 having a water cutoff function on its inner peripheral surface is fitted into the ring-shaped groove 11 in such a way as to freely slide in the direction of the inner periphery. The skin plate 2 is provided with a pressing means for pressing the ring-shaped tail packing 12 in the direction to bring its inner periphery into contact with the outer peripheral surface of a lining 3.
