PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cooling device, with which the rapid cooling can be executed without having an effect of cooling gas after colliding to a metallic strip and the uniformity of temp. distribution in the width direction of the metallic strip can be attained. SOLUTION: In a gas cooling device for metallic strip provided with headers having cooling gas spouting holes disposed facing the surface of the metallic strip, the adjacent headers 4 are arranged so that the outer surfaces are mutually apart by a prescribed distance and also, related to the cooling gas spouting holes 3, the interval thereof at the edge sides in the strip width direction is larger than that at the center part of the strip width.
