<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an oxygen scavenger composition improved in an oxygen absorption rate and an oxygen absorbing capacity, which composition comprises a carrier in which a combination of hydroxosulfitometalate with a transition metal compound is substantially uniformly distributed. SOLUTION: A combination is obtained by mixing 0.05-90 wt.% hydroxosulfitometalate represented by the formula: M1MII2OH(SO3)2-H2O with a transition metal compound in a molar ratio of the hydroxosulfitometalate to the transition metal ion of 3,000/1 to 1/1. This composition is uniformly distributed in a carrier to obtain an oxygen scavenger composition. In the formula, M1 is a monovalent cation; and MII is a divalent cation. To scavenge oxygen from a sealed container by using the scavenger composition, the scavenger composition together with a water-based filler is packed into the container, the container is sealed, the contents are subjected to pasteurization at 50-100 deg.C or to sterilization at 100-150 deg.C, and the water and the scavenger composition are brought into contact with each other in the presence of oxygen in an inside atmosphere.</p> |
