PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the generation of noise by preventing disturbance of the waveform of a damping force through opening and closing of a check valve. SOLUTION: A piston 5 to which a piston rod 6 is coupled is fitted in a cylinder 2 sealed with oil liquid. A check valve 14 is provided to allow only a flow of oil liquid to the cylinder upper chamber side from the cylinder lower chamber 2b side of a communication passage 12. The check valve 14 causes main discs 29 and 30 having long holes 34 and 35 to seat a valve seat 26 formed at the piston 6 and an intermediate disc 31 having a small long hole 40 and a subdisc 32 are laminated thereon. The check valve 14 opens, in order, a sub disc 32, an intermediate disc 31, and main discs 29 and 30 according to the increase of the pressure oil liquid and a flow rate and a flow passage area is gradually enlarged, whereby a rapid fluctuation of a flow of oil liquid is prevented from occurring, the waveform of a damping force is stabilized, and the generation of noise is reduced.
