PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an Al alloy sheet stably excellent in a low earing ratio, flange formability, ironing properties and strength as the material for a DI can barrel. SOLUTION: An Al-Mg-Mn alloy is cast and is thereafter subjected to homogenizing treatment, and moreover, at the time of executing hot rolling, the hot rolling starting temp. is controlled to 350 to 590 deg.C, and finish rolling is started at <=50 mm sheet thickness and at 280 to 450 deg.C and is executed in such a manner that the draft in each pass is controlled to 10 to 80%, the interpass residence time is controlled to <=10 min, and the recrystallizing ratio in each pass is controlled to <=90%. Moreover, the variation of the temp. of the material in each pass of the finish rolling is controlled to <=70 deg.C, furthermore, the hot rolling finishing temp. is controlled to 230 to 330 deg.C, the finishing sheet thickness is controlled to 1.5 to 4.0 mm, the average cooling rate to a room temp. of the hot rolled sheet directly after the hot rolling is controlled to <=100 deg.C/hr to obtain the hot rolled sheet having <=97% recrystallizing ratio at a room temp. and 0.1 to 50% cubic orientation area ratio. This hot rolled sheet is moreover subjected to primary cold rolling of 2 to 50%, is thereafter subjected to process annealing to control its cubic orientation area ratio to 1 to 70% and is subsequently subjected to final cold rolling of >=50%.
