PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an operation controlling method of a device for removing phosphorus in waste water for stably obtaining excellent treated water from which the phosphorus is removed even at the time when waste water quality fluctuates timewisely. SOLUTION: At the time of removing the phosphorus in the waste water 1 by using the device constituted with at least settling pool 2 for the waste water 1 to be treated, anaerobic tank 3, aerobic tank 4 and settling pool 6 for the waste water 1 treated at these tanks, a total phosphorus concn. and a chemical oxygen demand or an org. carbon concn. of waste water 1 to be treated at the outlet of the settling pool are measured and also the relation of the chemical oxygen demand or the org. carbon concn. and a biological oxygen demand is previously obtained, and an org. material is injected to the water flowing into the anaerobic tank 3 so that biological oxygen demand/total phosphorus concn. obtained from a measured value of the chemical oxygen demand or the org. carbon concn. by this relation may be more than 20, or the removing amount of org. suspended solid at the settling pool of the waste water 1 to be treated or a flocculating agent for forming a water-insoluble compd. with a phosphorus compd. in the waste water is added.
