PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for preventing the fall of stored articles on racks, that is simple in arrangement, that is low-cost, and that takes only a short time, from the occurrence of an earthquake, to assume an attitude for preventing the fall of the stored articles. SOLUTION: This device has a fall prevention means energized for oscillation, the means having a horizontal member 20 provided at the end of an oscillating member 16. One end of a guide groove 22 in the oscillating member 16 serves as an engaging groove 24, and the oscillating member 16 is oscillatable about a shaft 14 within the range of the guide groove and is slidable in the direction of its depth within the range of an oblong hole 17. Normally, the engaging groove 24 and a pin 28 are in engagement with each other to regulate the oscillation of the oscillating member 16 and the horizontal member 20 is present in a position where it does not affect the operation of taking articles in and out. When earthquake motion equal to or greater than a certain magnitude occurs, the oscillating member 16 moves by sliding within the range of the oblong hole 17 and the engaging groove 24 and the pin 28 are disengaged from each other, after which an energizing force causes the oscillating member 16 to oscillate about the shaft 14 within the range of the guide groove 22, causing the horizontal member 20 to move onto an article taking face.
