FRICTION MATERIAL COMPOSITION AND FRICTION MATERIAL PREPARED THEREFROM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a friction material composition suitable for a friction material which exhibits a small change in friction coefficient within one braking action at the first braking in a high-humidity morning or when wetted by water and to provide a friction material prepared from the composition. SOLUTION: This composition contains 5 wt.% or lower carbonaceous lubricant and is prepared in such a way that among all the materials constituting the composition, materials having a moisture content of 0.5% or higher (provided the binder is excluded) are dried and surface-treated with a silane-based water- repellent substance before the composition is prepared. Preferably, the carbonaceous lubricant is graphite and/or coke. The friction material is prepared by thermally press-molding the composition.
