PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a herbicide against Poa annua L. growing in a lawn which controls Poa annua L. of a bad weed harmful to the lawn selectively and is capable of exhibiting strong herbicidal activity on Poa annua L. not only before the seed leaf stage but also after the seed leaf stage by including a specific benzofuran derivative as an active ingredient. SOLUTION: This herbicide against Poa annua L. growing in a lawn is obtained by including a 2,3-dihydrobenzofuran derivative, suitably a compound represented by the formula (R1 and R2 are each H, a lower alkyl or an alkoxy; R3 is a lower alkyl, an alkoxy or an alkoxycarbonyl), particularly 2,3- dihydro-3,3-dimethylbenzofuran-5-yl ethanesulfonate, as an active ingredient. Further, the above compound is used in an effective amount of 0.1-1000 g per 10 ares of the lawn and a sulfonyl urea derivative or the like, e.g. halosulfuron methyl, imazosulfuron or the like, may be used as another herbicidal component.
