PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject composition having a rapidly improved emulsion stability, useful as a cosmetic, etc., by making the composition include an inorganic salt and a specific pentanediol. SOLUTION: This composition comprises (A) an inorganic salt and (B) 1,2- pentanediol. The component A is preferably one or more selected from sodium chloride, magnesium chloride, sodium sulfate, potassium chloride, potassium bromide and calcium chloride. Especially bittern is preferably used. For example the amount of the component A is 0.01-10.0 wt.% and that of the component B is 0.1-20.0 wt.% based on the whole amount of the emulsion composition. The composition is preferably formulated with an emulsifying agent, a polyhydric alcohol such as glycerol, 1,3-butylene glycol, etc., a humectant such as an amino acid or a mucosaccharide and components such as a ultraviolet absorber, an antioxidant, etc.
