PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a highly pure (meth)acrylic ester in high yield by using a readily available catalyst without causing polymerization even in a high degree of conversion by carrying out an ester-interchange reaction of methyl (meth)acrylate with an alcohol by using the specific catalyst and polymerization inhibitor. SOLUTION: Methyl (meth)acrylate and a 3-20C alcohol are subjected to an ester-interchange reaction by using tetramethyl titanate as a catalyst and an N-oxyl compound of formula I [R1 to R4 are each a 1-8C alkyl; and R is H a 1-18C alkyl, an alkenyl or an (alkyl)aryl], (e.g. a compound of formula II), and/or cyclohexane-1-spiro-2'-(4'-oxoimidazolidin-1'-oxyl)-5'-spiro-1"- cyclohexane of formula III as a polymerization inhibitor to provide the objective (meth)acrylic ester. The amount of the used compounds of formulas I and III is ordinary 30-5,000 ppm, preferably 50-2,000 ppm based on the amount of the methyl (meth)acrylate. |
