PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a material excellent in wear resistance by providing it with a coating layer composed of a specified volume ratio of diamond particles, and the balance cemented carbide or cermet, consisting of at least one among specified metals, alloys and compds. and having the m.p. equal to or above the specified temp. and specifying the diamond particles having a specific average grain diameter to the thickness of the coating layer. SOLUTION: This member has a coating layer composed of diamond particles, and the balance cemented carbide or cermet, contg. the diamond particles by 3 to 50 vol.%, consisting of at least one among metals selected from the group IVa elements in the Periodic Table, alloys consisting of >= two or more kinds of elements selected from the group IVa elements in the Periodic Table and the carbides or the like of the group IVa elements in the periodic Table or one of the compds. selected from their solid solutions and having the m.p. of >=1300 deg.C. In the case the average diameter D of the diamond particles is 1 to 100 μm, and the thickness of the coating layer is defined as (d), (0.5D+d)/0.5D}3 satisfies 1.002 to 2.2, and this is a hard member produced by a sintering method under the condition in which the diamond particles are metastable. |
