PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low-cost air bag device that can keep a curtain-shaped air bag inflated in a required deployment position over a vehicle interior side surface without slacking the lower edge of the air bag and can thus protect the occupant reliably in case of side collision or the like, via a few seams or welds and a small-capacity inflator. SOLUTION: A curtain-shaped air bag 1 has a cylindrical inflation portion 11 extending between the proximity of an upper edge 14 and the proximity of a lower edge 15. Both ends of the lower edge 15 are fixed to a vehicle body so that the curtain-shaped air bag 1 in a neutral mounted state is slacked across the cylindrical inflation portion 11. Actuation of an inflator 2 deploys the cylindrical inflation portion 11 vertically to tense up the lower edge 15, upon which a protective inflation portion 13 can be inflated with the curtain-shaped air bag 1 kept in a required position. |
