PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new-type tension rod that can set on a coke oven less laboriously within a shorter time as compared with the conventional and to provide a method for setting the same. SOLUTION: Provided is a steel bar tension rod that is horizontally extended under tension with a spring between the backstays rising along the machine and coke sides of a coking oven so as to suppress the elongation of the oven wall brick in the direction of the oven length, wherein the steel bar 5 is divided into a plurality of sections, and each section is provided with a means 18 for joining it to another. A method for setting the rod is also disclosed.
